The Mosquito Magnet® Advantage

CounterFlow™ Technology

Mosquito Magnet® traps are backed by over 20 years of research and 15 patents that make our traps technologically advanced.

Mosquito Magnet® traps work by mimicking the way humans attract mosquitoes. Through its exclusive patented CounterFlow™ technology the trap converts propane into CO2, mixes it with the precise level of heat, moisture and attractant to lure mosquitoes to the trap and then vacuums mosquitoes into the net where they dehydrate and die.

Not worth the money and effort By Kevin

I'm giving this a 1 star because the time between failure does not offset its functional time, and when adding in the cost per unit and the cost to keep it running I would have expected something with a little more robust design. My story for my unit is below. First month it worked great, than came the time to change the propane bottle. Turned the system off, changed the bottle, and I could not get it to turn on again. After some back and forth with the company I sent it in for repairs under warranty. Got it back about 1.5 weeks later. Turned the unit on agin and it started up. After a day of running it would not start again and kept making clicking sounds. Called the company again and they told me to get new batteries. So I did, I now have so many C batteries, and it still wouldn't work, the fact that they say it should run a whole season on one set of batteries still bugs me. Since it wouldn't work they had me send it in again and again got it back in about 1.5 weeks. When I got it back the second time it worked for about half a day. After that I was pretty fed up with it and summer was about over so I stored it. This year my warranty was up in April so at that point it was fair game for me to take it apart because there is no way I'm spending more money to have it "fixed" again. ***Side note*** after looking at these systems I thought it was strange that the plug in unit has a 12 volt power supply and this thing is supposed to run on 4 C batteries, which is only 6 volts for how they have it wired. I'm an electrical engineer by trade so taking things apart is literally my job. After I took it apart and disconnected the gas and ignition source, basically a catalytic converter, I hooked up some brand new Duracell batteries, per their request, which measured 6.2 volts on my multimeter, and turned it on. And again it would try to start but couldn't. I'll give it to them that batteries have a lot of amp hours to them but if you dont have the voltage to carry the amps nothing is going to work. And for a system that is powering a fan and ignition source, that's a lot to ask out of 4 C batteries. Once I took a look at the fan and saw it was a 12 volt computer fan I figured I would hook it up to a 12 volt power supply. I did that and the thing turned right on, ignited after its warm up and has been running ever since. I even cycled it on and off a few times to see if it would start up again and it does, with the 12 volt power supply, which was $7 on amazon and not $50 some that they want for one. So 1 star for the fact that when it does work the unit works well. But for how much the units cost and the crappy warranty it's not worth it. From what I've seen, most people's will last a month than they will just be trouble after that and ironically they only give you a 30 day window to return it, seems fishy. I would save some money and just get the corded unit because from what I have seen it is the same internals the indepence is just very poorly designed. I dont know how the battery pack made sense to them.

Bad Customer Service / Unit broken on Delivery By Miken_ike

Sent the wrong unit to begin with. Also the nets did not work with the unit sent. On top of that, the unit arrived damaged and I've been trying for two weeks to get customer service to send me the right nets for the unit that was sent as well as the broken part. I glued the part that was broken and the unit is working now, but still no help with the replacement part or the correct nets. I will review this unit again after a season of use.

Discouraged in the sunshine state By Yogajo

I’ts been 3 weeks and looks like we have caught about 2 mosquitoes. We will relocate and see if it improves . I am still swatting them away.

Response From Mosquito Magnet®

Proper placement is key for a great catch. We recommend placing the trap between mosquito breeding grounds (such as standing water or heavy vegetation) and people areas. It should be kept at least 30-40 feet away from areas where a lot of human activity is expected. We also recommend keeping it upwind and in an area that is shaded during the heat of the day.

Our Consumer Relations Team is happy to provide additional assistance. Please feel free to contact us at (800) 953-5737.

Do not reccomend. Piece of junk By Harold Nixon

I purchased a Mosquito Magnet from Sam's Club about 10-12 years ago and it worked great. When it came time to replace it I purchased the Independence Model from our local ACE Hardware in October of 2015 for about $ 600.. Since it was the end of the season I put the new unit in my garage until April 2016. After a couple of months I had to return the unit because it wouldn't keep running. It was repaired under warranty. This year 2017 it has continued to stop. I contacted the manufacturer who informed me it was out of warranty and there would be a charge for repairs. This unit has never worked properly. I have purchased over $ 1,000 worth of nets, baits, cleaner cartages and batteries, the darn thing will not run. (The only way to get it to run for a short time is new batteries) My advise is to call an exterminator to have your yard sprayed for Mosquitos. It will be cheaper and a lot less frustrating. I would never recommend this product to a friend.

Great product By Annie

We bought our first mosquito magnet 12 years ago and only had to have it repaired once. It finally died so we ordered the battery operated model. So far so good but the propane tank did empty at 3 weeks!

Works well.. By bdud

We placed our previous Mosquito Magnet in a catch area which resulted in larger results, but it meant running power leads across the yard. When that unit failed after ~8 years we purchased the Independence model. The new unit has caught significantly more mosquitos and being battery operated means we can move the unit to where it will be the most effective. Recommend..

Not worth the $$$ By Allison

So far we've had it out for 2 weeks. Not one mosquito. One. We've moved location a few times and even put a different propane tank out too. Still being bit up by mosquitoes. Will be returning.

Hello Allison,

We are sorry to hear about this experience and are happy to help.

For best results, the trap should be placed upwind of breeding areas and 30-40 feet away from human activity areas such as patios and pools.  Our Consumer Relations Team is available six days a week to provide troubleshooting assistance.  We can be reached at 1-800-953-5737. This product is covered by a 30 day return policy and one year warranty.

Q.What would cause the batteries to die after only two days of installing new batteries in an Independence MM3200? The machine is slightly less than 5years old. The propane tip inside the machine has been cleaned recently.

The batteries are used to initially start the trap and to power a fault code. If a fault code has gone unnoticed, it could cause this experience. We recommend replacing the batteries with brand new batteries that were just recently purchased. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at (800) 953-5737 for further assistance.

Q.hey, does it come with propane tank, and how long does it get it shipped if i place order today

We apologize as the propane tank is not included with our Mosquito Magnet® traps. If the order is placed before 2:00 EST, it will ship the same day and arrive in 3-5 business days.

Q.Does the trap come with a net and/or attractant to start with?

Yes, this trap includes one bug bag, one Octenol attractant and four "C" batteries.
