Nets that are clogged with dead mosquitoes, spiders, pollen and dust will have an adverse effect on the vacuum’s ability (airflow) of your Mosquito Magnet® Patriot trap and prevent it from working at its best.
Start each season with a new Mosquito Magnet® Patriot Net and replace every 21 days or sooner if necessary. The rigid bag is self-contained, allowing for easy disposal and replacement. Whether constructed with rigid nets or nets with drawstrings, our self-contained nets eliminate any direct contact with the dead insects.
(3) Mosquito Magnet® R-Octenol Cartridges
The EPA registered Mosquito Magnet® R-Octenol is a secondary attractant the mimics human breath, drawing mosquitoes and biting insects to the trap. R-Octenol works the same as regular Octenol, but lasts 40% longer - up to 30 days!
Mosquito Magnet® R-Octenol attracts most mosquito species, including salt marsh mosquitoes, as well as no-see-ums and black flies. It will lure biting insects to the Mosquito Magnet® trap where they are captured, then dehydrate and die.
Who should use Mosquito Magnet® R-Octenol? People who live in northern & coastal regions should use R-Octenol to attract mosquitoes, no-see-ums and black flies.
The Mosquito Magnet® R-Octenol cartridge should be replaced every 30 days. After 30 days of use, the cartridge appears the same; however, it will no longer be effective as the R-Octenol will have been released. The catch rate will be reduced if the attractant is not changed.

Review Rate R-octenol best for central ILTried lurex in early months, low catch. Moved on to octenol and still had low catch. Finally tried R-octenol and been catching a lot! Mosquito population has dropped. Granted a little later in season, but I think it's better overall. Region is Central Illinois, which is right on the border of Lurex/Octenol.

Review Rate Very effective, will continue to use.Upon initial start up I had so many mosquitos in the net after about 3 days that I had to empty the net already so it could catch more! I have a swampy river overflow area right behind my house so the mosquito problem is quite intense, especially with the extremely wet spring we had. While it hasn't eliminated the mosquitos entirely in my yard, I can at least take the garbage out without getting carried away by them! LOL I also use a garlic concentrate spray around my deck (the trap is at the back of the yard) and that helps supplement for the ones that are still around.

Review Rate Lurex 3 very good, R-Octenol very good - Together they are fantastic!I live in northern Oklahoma. My wife never gets bit but my daughter and I are like sheep to the slaughter the second we walk outside. I have tried everything. I bought the Patriot a couple years ago and it did a pretty fair job of catching mosquitos, however, I was still getting bit... and to top that, my yard is not that big. I contacted support and they said I could try the R-Octenol, but in my area the Lurex 3 was likely the best choice. Tell you what I did. I bought the R-Octenol even though I do not live in that prime area, but I went a step further. I put the R-Octenol in my machine, but wait... I then went ahead and installed the Lurex 3. To my utter amazement I have a half basket of mosquitos within three days. The combination of the two attractants is doing the trick. I will double up going forward. Very happy now!

Review Rate good deal as long as you avoid shipping fees!After years of continuous use, season after season, I needed a new net for our old Defender. While I got a fairly good deal on this bundle, and all came as expected and in a timely fashion, I was disappointed to have to spend that much money just to avoid the almost $20 in shipping for the nets alone. That said, until I find a better option to vanquish the unbearable mosquito population, I will spend it! Our Defender has served us well.

Review Rate Definitely worksDefinitely works. We're on the water and the collection is sometimes affected by offshore breezes and compressor fan. Our best collections have been on cooler days when we're not using AC.
