Review Rate Squirrels are smart !The squirrels are too smart. I have the feeder hanging off a 84 inch shepherds hook attached to my railing on the deck. The bottom of the feeder is 56 “ from the railing. They jump up grab the perch turn themselves upside down so they don’t close the openings to the seed. I’ll “ TRY “ and outsmart them by putting a plastic shield under the feeder so they can’t jump up, a large round empty salad container might do.

Review Rate Not the perfect feeder I expectedI thought this was the perfect answer to (1) lots of feed so not having to refill all the time, and (2) pesky squirrels. Turns out, this was far from perfect. Rain entered the feeding area, turning all the feed into a concrete-like mess that can't be cleaned out. Additionally, the connections for the tube, both top and bottom, were simple holes in the tube fitting into notches. This is very flimsy and hard to connect. I now have to search for another model.

Both the dome and the base tilt to throw squirrels off, but if the weather will cause the seed to become saturated, we recommend bringing a feeder inside temporarily or moving it to a more sheltered location. Our feeders are covered by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a one-year replacement warranty. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) for additional assistance. -
Review Rate No squirrels but no birds eitherWell not dure about this. It keepa squirrels away but i have not seen many birds. I have 2 different types of seeds, one in each feeder. Any thoughrs??
Response From Mosquito Magnet®Patty : Consumer Relations RepresentativeHello Shel,
Thank you for the feedback. Birds are creatures of habit and can take some time to adjust to a new feeder. To aid in this transition, we recommend temporarily taking down any other established feeders. Placing a shiny pie pan with a handful of seed on the ground under the feeder may also help attract them to the feeder.
We hope that this tips help bring the birds to enjoy the feeder. Feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973) with any additional questions. -
Review Rate A compromiseSturdier than any other feeder. The anti-fur systems are sound but the trade off it that fewer feather friends are attracted to this feeder. No med size size one yet, just the smaller ones... maybe the perch, maybe the location, maybe the need to stretch into the small and deeper feeding holes...

Review Rate Time will tellBirds seem to be slow to feed on this feeder. However, no squirrels on it.

Review Rate Loser, squirrels loved itThe squirrels continued to knock the tube off of the top so it landed on the ground. Then off course they had a feast. I tried to figure a way to prevent them from doing this and never found it. This is a loser product.
Response From Mosquito Magnet®Patty : Consumer Relations RepresentativeWe regret to hear about this unusual experience and are happy to help.
When persistent squirrels find a way to get around both deterrent features of this feeder, additional measures can be taken. We recommend adding cayenne pepper to the seed. This does not affect the birds, as they have no sense of smell or taste, but t will deter squirrels. They also are not fond of safflower seed, a nutritious meal that attracts a wide variety of birds.

Review Rate Not Squirrel ProofDefinitely does not keep squirrels off. Also the jays don't seem to use it much (length of perches as noted in an earlier review?) but smaller birds do.
Response From Mosquito Magnet®Patty : Consumer Relations RepresentativeWe appreciate the time taken to provide this feedback and apologize for the experience.
The baffle should deter squirrels jumping from above. We recommend placing feeders at least 5 feet above the ground and 10 feet away from the nearest launching point from the side, such as decks.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What are the most popular bird seeds to use?
A: Black Oil Sunflower Seed is the most popular bird seed. It is much smaller than the traditional sunflower seed and best for those birds with smaller bills, such as the sparrow, junco, and goldfinch. This seed is accepted by the greatest variety of birds.
Mixed Seed is also popular. It is best to buy the mixes that contain white proso millet, a tiny cream colored seed with a shiny shell. Mixes containing finely cracked corn and black oil sunflower are also preferred by a large number of birds.
Niger (Thistle Seed) is imported from Africa and Asia. Niger won't germinate, but it does have a tendency to become moldy due to lack of air circulation. If you notice mold on the seed, it must be removed from the feeder and the feeder must be cleaned thoroughly.
Q: How do I clean my bird feeders?
A: Before filling your feeder with fresh seed, it is recommended that the following precautions are taken:
- Remove all old seed.
- Soak feeder in a light water/bleach solution (9 parts water to 1 part bleach).
- Scrub feeder and allow to air dry.
- Rake and remove accumulated hulls and droppings from underneath the feeders.
- Spread mulch (bark or wood) under the feeder, replace mulch when soiled.
- Thoroughly wash hands after handling and cleaning feeders.
Q: What is the importance of providing water for wild birds?
A: Wild birds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need seed. Birds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also for bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide birds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for birds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy. By adding a water source, you also can attract a larger variety of birds to your yard. You may even attract more colorful birds that don't eat seed, but are in need of water!
